This weekend handler John Leadbetter and Daryl went to Coniston to compete in a 2 day adventure race. They had to
Run and look for checkpoints, mountain bike, night navigation a run up to Coniston Old Man and then a kayak race on Coniston....they were knackered!
Whilst they did that me and the Dram dog and Kaz went out with Kazs friend Serena and her 3 dogs Jack , Darcy and Flint. We ran up the fell from Pooley Bridge - just over 6 km - Serena is very good and kept giving Kaz encouragement! Only 2 weeks til Kaz and Daryl do the Talkin Tarn Truathlon.
Then early this morning we had a pager message to go to Keswick MRT for a Callout to look for a missing fell runner. Ian and Keppi, joy and Einich, Elly and Meg, Olly and Kitt and Penny and Pippi and Olli had all been out. Me and Kaz and Daryl who navigated searched up from Newlands Valley to the start of the crags under Sail - me and Kaz were about to start traversing In to the crags when the helicopter that had flown above us radioed to say they'd found the man about 400 m from us round the corner- so we got stood down. Sadly the man had died.

Some early morning jokes
Well, here we are 6.20am on a Saturday morning and apparently that's not a good time for you humans for dogs to be playing with squeaky toys! Kaz came into the kitchen to tell me and Dram to be quiet. I thought I'd better keep the Dram dog entertained with some jokes..... Here's 2 of them:
What do you get when you cross a dog like me and a rise?
A collie-flower! Get it?
What happened when the dog went to the flea circus?
He stole the show! Ha
This weekend Daryl and handler John Leadbetter are competing in a 2 day adventure race in Coniston and me and the Dram dog intend to adopt the pose in the photo!
Kaz has other ideas though coz she is competing in the Talkin Tarn triathlon in 2 weeks and so me and the Dram dog are getting dragged out to run on the fells with her (what's she going to do on the day without us?)

Kaz not too impressed with me :-(
I wasn't popular tonight when kaz got home - I was so excited to see her that I did a massive jump but she messed it all up by bending down and smiling....apparently she didn't enjoy my tongue in her mouth!
Not much has been happening on the search dog front lately although there was good news for Bill and Ani who passed another assessment - only 2 to go now and they'll be on the Callout list

Kaz is an idiot sometimes
Me and the Dram dog and Kaz and Daryl went out this afternoon for a really nice walk around on the fell, but frankly, I'm ashamed to be with her - she was walking along on a really (and I do mean really) flat bit of fellside when she tripped over and had to start running forwards waving her arms around to stop herself failing flat on her face .....idiot!
Well thanks for that Dot - I see you failed to mention that you managed to lie down in a muddy puddle with the toy in your mouth and then drop it in - and then couldnt find it - even when you were actually stood on top of it..........

A nice run around
It's been pretty quiet on the Callout front lately so I have to get a bit of practice in when I can - but not tonight cos the Dram dog was allowed to do some searching for a special scent. When he finds it he only has to sit there and wait til Daryl gets there with a toy and some food! Huh I have to run back and forwards to Kaz and I dont get my tennis ball til I've covered 100 miles and barked loads..... It's rubbish

Off for a walk
Me and Kaz found Daryl (well I did - Kaz just bumbled about behind) but I was hot and my tongue got in the way of me barking.....do you human types suffer the same probs?
I gave a talk
I've had a nice day today - 1st off Kaz was working at home this morning so me and the Dram dog spent all morning lying about on her feet and tgetting some fuss. Then this afternoon she took a long lunch and we drove to a hall where she was giving a talk about us searchdogs - frankly I was a star - it didnt take long for the people to realise that she is just a bit part player in this partnership - I'm the one that does all the work - the only reason shes there is to carry the bag and do the first aid. Anyway, the nice people at the Parkinsons Society gave me a cheque for the searchdogs - thanks!
Tonight the Dram dog has got to play at being a trailing dog so has been outside in the field with Daryl - he hid a piece of gauze in the field with a smell on it (I think it was vanilla) and then gave the smell to the Dram dog to find - it was great - he went out and sat down right near the gauze - huh - if I'm not careful he'll be getting cleverer than me! (As if).

15th
Well - the good news from the Howgills Training weekend is that Mike Blakey and his dog Moss passed their final assessment and are now on the callout list.
Also Ian Higginbotham and Keppi passed their final assessment a couple of weeks ago and they are on the callout list too!
